Steam link works over network protocol so either WiFi or Ethernet cable in theory. I haven't tried connecting with Ethernet cable, because that means using a usbc to Ethernet adaptor connected to the quest and the cable would need to run to the router not the computer. I have optimus laptop and can just use VR fine. But you need to make sure that all the programs/services of you VR headset/steamvr are run on the discrete graphic card.

Just got it working streaming from my desktop PC to my steam deck in steam os desktop mode using virtual here and moonlight. Should work in windows on deck to. Decks controller even worked in VR games that use gamepad just hold the start button to switch to gamepad mode.
